STYLES
Diamond leading is probably what most people picture
when they think of leaded windows,
having been used for
hundreds of years. This style works well on any property regardless of window design., and is recommended when windows have varying sight lines and assymetrical openings, as in the photo on the right. We lead more windows in this style than any other. Diamond is the easiest pattern to DIY, as it is the most forgiving of small inaccuracies.
Square leading is the traditional alternative to diamond. The pattern is actually normally rectangular rather than truly square, but can be sized to the customers taste. This style works particularly well on windows taller than they are wide, and with even sight lines. The windows in the photo on the right would look equally stunning with square lead, aided by the shape and symmetry of its windows.
Queen Anne is actually a modern style; a combination of square and diamond. Due to the nature of the pattern, Queen Anne only looks its best on symmetrical windows with evenly sized panes. The Queen Anne pattern can be used to good effect on a door to give a contrast to square or diamond lead used elsewhere.
Border lead provides a subtle alternative to the above patterns. It can be looked at as a way of framing your view, but may be a bit too subtle for larger windows. Border lead is probably best used for smaller panes, and is very effective indoors on cabinet glass and mirrors. ![]() HOME Midlands Window Leading Telephone: (024) 7667 5757 email : info@windowleading.co.uk |
